Eglise Sainte Croix, La Salvetat-Peyralès

Eglise Sainte Croix, La Salvetat-Peyralès

Confirmed since 1147, this church kept its place at the border of the sauveté and played a great role in the defense system. The Sainte-Croix church was first and foremost a roman church. From that era subsists the nef which kept its pillars and dimensions. Changes were operated during the XVIth and the XVIIth century with the vaults and the contruction of a bell tower. The church was then extended by the opening of the side aisles and the creation of the west door in 1865-1868. Finally, in 1896-1898, the last work were finalized : the erection of the bell tower and the reconstruction of the roman choir which was falling into ruins.

During your visit, pay great attention to the certified historical monument reliquaries, the stained glass windows of the Doumerc house in Toulouse, the beautiful vaults and what remains of the woodwork created by the sculptor Paulin Serin.
