Association Les Martinets du Lézert, La Bastide-l'Évêque
The copper foundries of La Bastide l'Evêque existed in the 14th century and stopped working in the 19th century. The name "martinet" refers to the water powered hammer used in the foundry. Here, copper was beaten out into "coupes noires" (black cups) which were then sent to be finished elsewhere, including to coppersmiths in Villefranche. Today, the Ramonde foundry has been brought back to life by the Martinet Association.
