Settled in a Segala ridge, this small modern town owes its creation and expansion to its geographical location, which gave it - and still gives it - the opportunity to play a major role in the area economy for agriculture.

Today, the Val de Lenne Lake with its amenities is the first tourist attraction in Baraqueville, prized by visitors as well as the inhabitants : several bike and foot trails, a beach (bathing supervised in summer), summer watersports (pedalo, stand-up paddle, canoe)... The ideal place to relax and have a picnic. In a word : "enjoy"!

A crossroads...

All starts around 1749. At that time, Intendant Lescalopier decided to make the 3rd and 5th Royal Roads cross where Baraqueville would appear later. The site was 1st called "Crossroads of the Albi way", until 1810 when was built the relay station "La Baraque de Fraysse".

... that became more important...

Its fairs prosperity, the arrival of the railway and the Agricultural Revolution contribute to the expansion of this urban embryo. It is only in 1909 that "La Barraca de Fraisse" turns into "Baraqueville", that becomes in turn a commune (district) in 1973.

... mainly thanks to its fairs.

Before Baraqueville, plenty of fairs took place in neighbouring districts. Little by little, Baraqueville's supplant them, until being of major importance when they started to happen monthly from 1906.

To be seen close by : the Vors Fountain.

Highlight on the Farm Implements Fair :

This fair was created in 1955 to make trades and transactions easier after the motorization experienced by the agriculture in the Ségala around 1950.

It owes its success to a team of volunteers - led by André Rudelle - who was able to convince of its usefulness. Today, its fame spreads far beyond the administrative boundaries of Aveyron.

Dedicated at first to secondhand implements, it includes also brand new ones since 1960. In the meantime, a flower and seeding market has contributed to its diversification. Each year, the fair attracts 40 000 visitors and between 700 and 800 exhibitors coming from all over France.
